Barton men’s lacrosse held off by Montevallo, 16-13, in home contest

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton College men's lacrosse team (4-2) saw its three-match winning streak come to an end with a 16-13 setback to Montevallo (Ala.) (3-4) Friday afternoon at the Electric Supply Company Field and Truist Stadium.

The Falcons' Connor Frederick (Queenstown, Md.) scored five times while Thomas Vaesen (Victoria, British Columbia, CANADA) totaled nine points – four goals and five assists – as Montevallo took control of a close contest with four straight goals to end the third stanza for a 14-9 advantage and held court the rest of the way.

Barton was led by junior midfielder Mark Crawford (Chesapeake Beach, Md.) and senior midfielder Bodin Nichols (Brainerd, Minn.) with four goals each in the setback.  Crawford added three assists and the Bulldogs held a decisive edge in shots taken (59-40) and ground balls (45-31) despite the loss.

Montevallo's goalkeeper, Kyle Little (West Milford, N.J.), came up big for the Falcons as he stopped 21 shots on his way to the victory.  Barton junior Trevor Witholt (Murrieta, Calif.) suffered the loss in goal despite five saves.  Montevallo also won its second straight match.

Barton remains at home to take on Belmont Abbey, ranked No. 12 in NCAA Division II, in a key Conference Carolinas showdown next Saturday, March 20, at 1:00 p.m.  Montevallo faces Shorter in Rome, Ga., next Friday beginning at 5:00 p.m.
