MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Barton women's volleyball team (4-8, 4-4) rallied from a one-set deficit to defeat Chowan (1-9, 1-9), 3-2, Wednesday evening in a Conference Carolinas match at Bob Burke Court.
The Bulldogs won by scores of 25-18, 21-25, 24-26, 25-23 and 15-12 and rallied with victories in the fourth and fifth sets to win their third straight match.
Barton was led by senior outside hitter and all-league honoree
Kaytlin Elkins (Hope Mills, N.C.), who tallied a career-tying 31 kills while junior setter
Sarah Kirk (Pearland, Texas) added 54 assists and 15 digs and crossed the 1,000-assist mark for her career.
Barton sophomore outside hitter
Allison Gambill (Hickory, N.C.) also added a double-double – 13 kills and 18 digs – as the Bulldogs moved to .500 on the year in league play. Chowan was led by Anixa Rosa-Martinez (San Lorenzo, PUERTO RICO) with 15 kills and 20 digs but the Hawks hit just .134 for the match in the setback.
Barton hosts rival Mount Olive in its regular season final in league action next Tuesday, April 6, at 5:00 p.m., at Wilson Gymnasium while Chowan will compete in Pool Play in the 2021 Conference Carolinas Championships on Saturday, April 10.
