Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Barton men’s soccer dealt first loss of the year, 2-1 to rival Mount Olive on the road

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Barton men's soccer team (3-1, 3-1) was handed its first loss of the year, 2-1, to Mount Olive (2-2-1, 2-2-1) in a Conference Carolinas match Monday evening at Amon Field.

The Trojans broke a one-all tie with the match-winner with just under six minutes left in the contest courtesy of Kevin Avila (Goldsboro, N.C.) from 15 yards out.

Barton tied the score at one thanks to sophomore forward Omar Aboutaleb's (Asheboro, N.C.) second goal of the year in the 53rd minute but the Bulldogs couldn't find the back of the net the rest of the way.

The Trojans, who held a 15-5 advantage in shots taken, also received a goal from Meschak Kebi (Raleigh, N.C.) while Iwan Roberts (Wales, UNITED KINGDOM) earned the win in goal.  Roberts stopped one shot while Barton sophomore goalkeeper Jacob Randolph (Metairie, La.) suffered the setback despite seven saves on the evening.

Barton returns home to face North Greenville on Sunday beginning at 4:00 p.m., while Mount Olive takes on Lees-McRae in Banner Elk, N.C., on Sunday.  The time has yet to be announced.
