HICKORY, N.C. – The Barton College football team (0-3, 0-2) continued to show improvement but ultimately succumbed to national-power Lenoir-Rhyne (2-0, 2-0), 44-13, in a South Atlantic Conference contest Saturday afternoon at Moretz Stadium. The Bulldogs have a scheduling alliance with the league this year.
Lenoir-Rhyne, ranked No. 4 in the nation at the end of last season with a record of 13-1, finished with 510 yards of total offense including 309 yards passing and two scores from senior quarterback Grayson Willingham (Matthews, N.C.). The Bears' Dwayne McGee (Kissimmee, Fla.) rushed for 192 yards and three scores in the victory for the home team as well.
Barton cut the lead to 17-13 with 12:49 left in the second quarter on a 57-yard touchdown pass from freshman quarterback
Jaquan Lynch (Rocky Mount, N.C.) to junior wide receiver
Nate Byers (Trinity, N.C.) but the Bears responded with 17 straight points in the quarter for a 34-13 advantage entering intermission. Lenoir-Rhyne shut out Barton in the second half while scoring 10 more points.
Lynch finished with 242 yards through the air but was picked off three times while Byers finished with 99 yards on seven catches and freshman wide receiver
Kameron Johnson (Rocky Mount, N.C.) caught seven passes for 73 yards as well.

Jordan Terrell (Ramseur, N.C.) led the Bulldogs' ground game with 81 yards and a score and has now scored a touchdown in every contest so far this year. Terrell leads the team with four touchdowns. Sophomore defensive back
Darnell Johnson (Charlotte, N.C.) finished with eight tackles to lead the Bulldogs' defense.
Barton returns home to face Newberry next Saturday, March 27, at 6:00 p.m., at Electric Supply Company Field and Truist Stadium while Lenoir-Rhyne faces Wingate on Friday, April 6, beginning at 6:00 p.m., in Wingate, N.C.
