CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Barton women's lacrosse team (4-0) stayed perfect on the year with a 17-7 victory over Charleston (W.Va.) (1-2) Saturday evening at Elliott Field and the Welch Athletic Complex.
Barton sophomore midfielder
Samantha Diaz (Apex, N.C.) scored a match-high five goals as the Bulldogs rallied from an early 3-1 deficit to score five straight times to take control.
Senior midfielder
Morgan McGuffin (Huntingtown, Md.) added three goals for Barton, who held advantages in both ground balls (24-18) and shots taken (25-17) in the victory. Diaz also broke a three-all tie at the 13:31 mark with a goal that proved to be the game-winner.
Charleston was led by Elishia Davis (Charleston, W.Va.), who also scored five goals but the rest of the squad combined for just two scores. In goal, senior
Katherine Mattena (Salt Lake City, Utah) stopped six shots in picking up the win for the Bulldogs while the Golden Eagles' Georgia Ryan (Ellicott City, Md.) also made six saves but suffered the loss.
Barton returns to Conference Carolinas play to take on rival Mount Olive on Tuesday beginning at 7:00 p.m., at Electric Supply Company Field and Truist Stadium while Charleston hosts Davis & Elkins on Wednesday, March 24, at 5:00 p.m.
