SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Barton women's volleyball team (1-8, 1-4) lost in four sets to Converse (2-2, 2-2), 3-1, in a Conference Carolinas match on Friday evening at Hannah Gymnasium.
The Valkyries prevailed by scores of 25-21, 25-20, 23-25 and 25-23 and won their second straight match.
Converse was led by Jasmine Finkley (Columbia, S.C.) with 16 kills and Kiara Cannon (Simpsonville, S.C.) and Brittany Tepedino (Greenville, S.C.) with 14 kills each as the Valkyries totaled 10 service aces in the win.
Barton was led by senior outside hitter
Kaytlin Elkins (Hope Mills, N.C.) with a season-high 25 kills despite the loss. Sophomore outside hitter
Allison Gambill (Hickory, N.C.) added 16 kills and junior
Sarah Kirk (Pearland, Texas) finished with a double-double – 43 assists and 14 digs – but the Bulldogs lost their fourth straight match.
Barton will look to bounce back on Saturday when the Bulldogs take on Southern Wesleyan in Central, S.C., beginning at 2:00 p.m., while Converse hosts Lees-McRae on Tuesday starting at 7:00 p.m.
