ROYSTON, Ga. – The Barton women's volleyball team (1-5, 1-1) suffered a close, 3-2 setback to Emmanuel (Ga.) (5-2, 3-0) Monday afternoon at the Shaw Athletic Center.
The Lions won by scores of 25-16, 25-27, 18-25, 25-23 and 15-9 on their way to their third straight victory.
Emmanuel was led by Mia Cotton (Tallahassee, Fla.) with 13 kills while Hallie Richardson (Fayette, Ala.) added 12 kills and 20 digs as the Lions remained unbeaten in play.
Barton was led by senior outside hitter
Kaytlin Elkins (Hope Mills, N.C.) with 19 kills while sophomore outside hitter
Allison Gambill (Hickory, N.C.) totaled 14 kills in the losing effort. The Bulldogs, who won their first game of the year the night before, also received a double-double performance from junior setter
Sarah Kirk (Pearland, Texas): 37 assists and 14 digs.
Barton returns home to take on King (Tenn.) in league action Friday beginning at 5:00 p.m., while Emmanuel travels to Central, S.C., to face Southern Wesleyan Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
