WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's lacrosse team (3-1) rallied from a five-goal deficit to win its second straight one-score contest, 13-12, over Lander (2-1) Monday afternoon at the Electric Supply Company Field at Truist Stadium.
Barton junior attacker
Zach Hodge (Murrieta, Calif.) scored the match-winning goal with seven seconds left as the Bulldogs were able to overcome a 5-0 deficit to start the match.
Two players – freshman midfielder
Jacob Schwarz (Land O'Lakes, Fla.) and senior attacker
Tyler Thompson (Maine, N.Y.) – scored three times for the Bulldogs while Hodge added four assists in the victory.
Lander, who rallied from an 11-7 deficit in the final quarter to tie the score at twelve, was led by Drew Wilson (Eagan, Minn.) with four goals while Quinn Ingalls (Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, CANADA) with three scores despite the loss. Wilson tied the score with 2:36 left before Hodge's heroics.
Barton held the advantage in both shots taken (48-44) and ground balls (43-41) while sophomore
Giuseppe Brown (Gorham, Maine) earned the win in goal after totaling 14 saves for the Bulldogs. Lander's goalkeeper, Liam Mackay (Georgetown, Ontario, CANADA), suffered the loss despite stopping 15 shots.
Barton next travels to Murfreesboro, N.C., to take on Chowan on Saturday beginning at 5:00 p.m., while Lander visits Banner Elk, N.C., to face Less-McRae on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
