DUE WEST, S.C. – The Barton women's volleyball team (1-4, 1-0) picked up its first victory of the season in exciting fashion after rallying from two sets down to defeat Erskine (0-2, 0-1), 3-2, Sunday afternoon at the Galloway Center.
The Bulldogs won by scores of 24-26, 20-25, 25-16, 25-23 and 15-9 in the Conference Carolinas opener for both teams.
Barton was led by sophomore outside hitter
Allison Gambill (Hickory, N.C.) with a match-high 17 kills while freshman outside hitter
Caroline Schoonover (Lutz, Fla.) added 14 kills in the victory. Junior setter
Sarah Kirk (Pearland, Texas) notched a double-double – 46 assists and 18 digs – as the Bulldogs limited the Flying Fleet to a .120 hitting percentage.
Erskine was led by Kaile Tuisamatatele (Kapolei, Hawaii) with 10 kills but the home team couldn't hold the two-set advantage. Gambill leads the league in total kills (93) and total points (106).
Barton has a quick turnaround and will take on Emmanuel (Ga.) on Monday, March 1, at Noon in a league contest in Franklin Springs, Ga., while Erskine hosts Mount Olive on Monday beginning at Noon as well.
