Barton football outgunned by Lenoir-Rhyne in home finale

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton football team (5-5) suffered a 56-20 loss to the hands of Lenoir-Rhyne (7-2) Saturday afternoon in the home finale at Truist Stadium and Electric Supply Company Field.

The Bears, winners of five straight contests, scored touchdowns on their first five possessions of the second half to turn a close contest into a rout.  Lenoir-Rhyne's Dwayne McGee (Kissimmee, Fla.) ran for 152 yards while Jadus Davis (Wingate, N.C.) added three touchdowns on the ground as the Bears have outscored their opponents by a 191-29 during the win streak.

Barton kept the contest close and only trailed by a 21-13 margin at halftime thanks to a 94-yard kickoff return by redshirt freshman wide receiver Jacquez Durham (Clayton, N.C.) in the second quarter.

After junior placekicker Jackson Brooks (Elon, N.C.) cut the margin to one point – 14-13 – with a 34-yard field goal with 8:59 remaining before halftime, Lenoir-Rhyne responded with 35 straight points to put the contest away.

Lenoir-Rhyne quarterback Grayson Willingham (Matthews, N.C.) passed for 186 yards and three touchdowns as the Bears held a 473-334 edge in total yards.

Barton redshirt freshman running back Jordan Terrell (Ramseur, N.C.) added 107 yards on the ground and scored on a 11-yard touchdown run while redshirt freshman linebacker Shane Perry (Holly Springs, N.C.) led all tacklers with 18 in the setback.  Terrell now has 1,547 yards rushing and 13 touchdowns on the year.

In the regular season finales, Barton travels to Wise, Va., to take on UVA Wise next Saturday beginning at Noon, while Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to face Catawba in a South Atlantic Conference game at 1:00 p.m.
