WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's basketball team (3-2, 1-0) opened the 2021-22 portion of its Conference Carolinas schedule with a 76-69 victory over Francis Marion (3-2, 1-2) Tuesday evening at Wilson Gymnasium.
Barton sophomore guard
Donaven Hairston (Atlanta, Ga.) led all scorers with 24 points including 14 in the second half as the Bulldogs used a late surge to overtake the Patriots and pick up the win. Hairston hit all eight free throw attempts and leads the team in scoring at 20.4 points per contest this season.
Barton freshman guard
Marcus Boykin (Clinton, N.C.) added 18 points as the Bulldogs won from the charity stripe, connecting on 23-of-32 attempts for the night.
Five players scored in double figures for the Patriots – led by Jonah Pierce (Sanford, Fla.) with 16 points – and Nieja Jordan (Jacksonville, N.C.) tallied a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds in the losing effort.
Barton sophomore guard
Malik Bryant (Fort Mill, S.C.) also scored in double figures – 12 points – and dished out five assists as the home team won its third straight game.
Barton remains at home to take on Emmanuel (Ga.) on Friday at 7:00 p.m., at Wilson Gymnasium in a conference contest while Francis Marion faces King at home in a league game beginning at 7:30 p.m., on Friday.
