WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's basketball team (3-3, 1-1) saw its three-game winning streak come to an end with a 70-55 loss to Emmanuel (Ga.) (5-1, 4-0) Friday evening at Wilson Gymnasium.
The Lions, behind All-American Kelvin Jones (Atlanta, Ga.) and his game-high 18 points, won their fourth straight game and remained at the top of the league standings. Emmanuel's Michael Wright (Summerville, S.C.) added 16 points and hit five of the visitors' 11 three-pointers in the victory.
Barton was led by sophomore guard
Donaven Hairston (Atlanta, Ga.) with 13 points but the Bulldogs connected on just four-of-14 from the charity stripe and committed 17 turnovers in the setback.
The Lions took a 32-23 advantage into intermission and stayed ahead the rest of the way. Barton sophomore forward
Trevon Spencer (Columbia, N.C.) and sophomore guard
Jett Fortuny (Cary, N.C.) both finished with 10 points each in the losing effort. Emmanuel also held a 51-43 advantage on the boards.
Barton remains at home to face league-foe Belmont Abbey while Emmanuel takes on Chowan in Murfreesboro, N.C. Both games are scheduled for Saturday afternoon beginning at 4:00 p.m.
