Barton women’s soccer pulls out 3-2 win over Chowan to advance in the league tournament

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's soccer team (9-5-3) survived the opening round Wednesday evening of the 2021 Conference Carolinas Championship with a 3-2 win over Chowan (5-11-1) at Electric Supply Company Field and Truist Stadium.

Barton senior midfielder Evie Kenna (Aldershot, ENGLAND) launched a shot from about 30 yards after corralling a loose ball off a corner kick and found the back of the net in the top left corner in the 86th minute to lift the Bulldogs to the win.  The goal was Kenna's third of the year.

Barton, the sixth seed in the tournament, will take on third-seeded North Greenville (11-3-4) on Saturday in the quarterfinals of the conference championship beginning at 1:00 p.m., in Tigerville, S.C.

After senior defender Hailey Russell (Jacksonville, N.C.) scored the lone goal of the first half – her team-leading seventh on the season – at the 17:35 mark of the match, both teams revved up the offense in the second half with two scores each.

Seventh-seeded Chowan's Carolina Lucci (Monaca, Pa.) scored both goals for the visitors to tie the score twice while sophomore forward Lexis Goldberg (Sanford, N.C.) added the other score for the Bulldogs, who held a 20-14 advantage in shots taken in winning their third straight match.

Barton senior Kristin Davis (Willow Spring, N.C.) earned the win in goal after coming off the bench in the first half to go along with five saves while Chowan's goalkeeper, Allison Traub (Hamilton, Va.), made three stops but suffered the loss.
