WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's basketball team (0-2) fell to Augusta (2-0) by a 100-79 score on Saturday afternoon on the final day of the Bulldogs' 45 Second Classic at Wilson Gymnasium.
The Jaguars' Troy Cracknell (Huntersville, N.C.) scored 22 points and hit 11-of-13 free throw attempts while Tyshaun Crawford (Griffin, Ga.) added a double-double – 21 points and 10 rebounds – as the visitors scored 59 points after halftime to break open a relatively close game.
Augusta also hit 50 percent (33-of-66) from the floor and knocked down 12 treys to remain unblemished after two games so far this season.
Barton was led by redshirt freshman guard
Marcus Boykin (Clinton, N.C.) with 21 points and 10 rebounds as well and sophomore guard
Donaven Hairston (Atlanta, Ga.) scored 20 points for the second straight game in the setback.
Barton was also hurt by 16 turnovers which led to 21 points by Augusta. The Bulldogs did, however, hit 26-of-33 (79 percent) free throw attempts while sophomore guard
Malik Bryant (Fort Mill, S.C.) also scored in double figures for the home team with 13 points.
Barton looks to rebound next Friday when the Bulldogs travel to Mount Olive, N.C., to take on Saint Augustine's in the Pickle Classic on the University of Mount Olive campus while Augusta faces Fayetteville State next Saturday at 2:00 p.m., in Fayetteville, N.C. In the first contest today, Columbus State (2-0) defeated Mount Olive (0-2) by an 88-67 score.
