MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Barton men's basketball team (1-2) picked up its first win of the year in convincing fashion, 79-56 over Saint Augustine's (1-3) Friday evening in the Pickle Classic on the campus of the University of Mount Olive.
Barton sophomore guards Donaven Hairston (Atlanta, Ga.) and Malik Bryant (Fort Mill, S.C.) and freshman forward Kanayo Nwosu (Raleigh, N.C.) all scored a team-high 16 points as the Bulldogs raced to a 33-23 halftime lead and never looked back in the win.
Barton, which led by as many as 28 points with just over two minutes left in the contest, also received 10 boards from Nwosu for the double-double. The Bulldogs scored 18 points off the Falcons' 14 turnovers as well and held a 38-27 edge in rebounding for the contest.
Saint Augustine's was led by Dhashon Dyson (Chicago, Ill.) with 24 points but was the lone player to score in double figures for the Falcons. Saint Augustine's also struggled from the three-point line, connecting on just three-of-25 attempts (12 percent).
On the final day of the round-robin tournament on Saturday, Barton faces Virginia State at 5:00 p.m., while Saint Augustine's takes on the host school, Mount Olive, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
