WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's soccer team (5-3-1, 3-2-1) saw its three-match winning streak come to an end with a 1-0 setback to rival Mount Olive (7-0-2, 4-0-1) Wednesday afternoon in a key Conference Carolinas contest at the Bulldogs Athletic Complex.
Mount Olive's Kali Schindler (Marlboro, N.Y.) scored the lone goal of the match at the 80:56 mark of the second half after settling the ball and launching it over the Bulldogs' keeper in the top left corner. The goal was Schindler's first score of the year as the Trojans remained unbeaten on the season.
Barton held a 20-14 advantage in shots taken despite the loss. In goal, Mount Olive's Taylor Lewis (Hamilton, Ohio) earned the shutout victory after stopping five shots while junior
Rachel Cox (Wilson, N.C.) suffered her first loss in goal on the season for the Bulldogs. Cox made four saves on the afternoon.
Barton looks to bounce back on Saturday when the Bulldogs travel to Tigerville, S.C., to take on North Greenville beginning at 11:00 a.m., in a league contest while Mount Olive faces Erskine in Due West, S.C., on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
