Barton men’s soccer suffers tough setback on the road to Francis Marion, 2-1

FLORENCE, S.C. – The Barton College men's soccer team (8-5, 7-3) lost a tough Conference Carolinas match to Francis Marion (10-4-2, 9-0-1), 2-1, Wednesday night at Hartzler Field.

The Patriots' Mauricio Castorino (Asuncion, PARAGUAY) broke a one-all tie with the match-winning goal in the 51st minute as Francis Marion remained at the top of the league standings.  The Patriots are the lone unbeaten team in conference play.

Francis Marion's Javier Bello (Madrid, SPAIN), who was one of two Patriots credited with the assist of Castorino's match-winner, opened the scoring just 5:41 into the contest.  Bello scored from four yards out for his fourth goal of the year.

Barton tied the score at one at the 10:20 mark of the first half when freshman midfielder Jeremy Alvarez (Sims, N.C.) found the back of the net for his first collegiate goal.  Alvarez's shot, from 27 yards out, was assisted by junior defender Sebastian Stephen (Newton, N.J.).

Francis Marion held a 15-3 advantage in shots taken while Riccardo Rossi (Verona, ITALY) earned the win in goal after stopping two shots.  Barton junior goalkeeper Jacob Randolph (Metairie, La.) made five saves but suffered the loss.

Barton will look to bounce back on Senior Day when the Bulldogs host Converse on Saturday afternoon beginning at 1:30 p.m., while Francis Marion travels to Due West, S.C., to face Erskine on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
