BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Barton women's soccer team (6-5-3, 4-3-3) played to its second straight tie on the road, 1-1 to Lees-McRae (9-3-2, 6-2-2), Saturday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas match at Tate Field.
Barton registered an own goal at the 23:43 mark of the first half to open the scoring before Lees-McRae tied it in the 56th minute on a penalty kick courtesy of Taylor Barrineau (Iron Station, N.C.). The score was Barrineau's third of the year.
Neither team found the back of the net the rest of the way while the Bobcats held a 22-8 edge in shots taken in the tie.
Both goalkeepers, Barton senior
Kristin Davis (Willow Spring, N.C.) and Lees-McRae's Mallory Roughton (Nashville, N.C.), allowed just one goal in 110 minutes of action. Davis stopped 11 shots while Roughton made four saves on the afternoon.
Barton remains on the road to take on Francis Marion on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m., in a league match while Lees-McRae travels to Bristol, Tenn., to face King Wednesday beginning at 1:00 p.m.
