Barton women’s soccer holds on to beat Francis Marion, 2-1, on the road

FLORENCE, S.C. – The Barton women's soccer team (7-5-3, 5-3-3) survived a late goal and downed Francis Marion (2-14, 2-9), 2-1, in a Conference Carolinas match Wednesday evening at Hartzler Field.

Barton junior midfielder Kassie Krul (Rockport, Maine) and senior defender Hailey Russell (Jacksonville, N.C.) both scored for the visitors and the Bulldogs remained unbeaten in their last four matches.

Krul opened the scoring at the 14:33 mark of the first half with a goal inside near post off a one-touch pass from senior midfielder Olivia Bronson (Gaithersburg, Md.), who was credited with the assist.

Russell made it a 2-0 advantage with her team-leading fifth goal of the season in the 56th minute – sophomore midfielder Lexis Goldberg (Sanford, N.C.) notched the assist – before Francis Marion cut
the margin in half with just over three minutes left.

Ambrea Hills (Ladson, S.C.) scored her first goal of the year for the Patriots, who suffered their ninth straight loss.  In goal, Barton junior Rachel Cox (Wilson, N.C.) picked up the victory while Makayla Willets (Mastic, N.Y.) suffered the setback for Francis Marion despite six saves.  Barton also held a 13-6 advantage in shots taken in the win.
