WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's volleyball team (7-9, 4-7) fell to UNC Pembroke (18-8, 10-2) by a 3-0 score in a Conference Carolinas match Friday evening at Wilson Gymnasium.
The Braves won over the Bulldogs by scores of 25-15, 25-23 and 25-22 while shutting out their second straight opponent.
UNC Pembroke was led by Katelyn West (Rural Hall, N.C.) with 11 kills and Brianna Warren (Indian Trail, N.C.) added 10 kills as the Braves swept the season series from the Bulldogs and remained in sole possession of second place in the league's East Division standings.
Barton, which saw its two-match winning streak snapped, was paced by sophomore right side hitter
Caroline Schoonover (Lutz, Fla.) with eight kills while freshman outside hitter
Lauryn Pitt (Greenville, N.C.) added seven kills and 11 digs in the setback. Barton freshman libero
Brooke Clute (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) added a match-high 22 digs despite the loss.
Barton will look to rebound on Saturday when the Bulldogs travel to Florence, S.C., to take on league-foe Francis Marion on Saturday at 2:00 p.m., while UNC Pembroke hosts Mount Olive on Saturday at Noon.
