WILSON, N.C. – The Barton College football team (3-2) scored on its first offensive play of the game and never looked back in upending Carson-Newman (0-4), 31-17, Saturday afternoon at Electric Supply Company Field and Truist Stadium.

Jaquan Lynch (Rocky Mount, N.C.) scored on a 61-yard touchdown run on the Bulldogs' first offensive play and later added an 80-yard touchdown toss in the quarter to redshirt freshman wide receiver
Kameron Johnson (Rocky Mount, N.C.) as the home team built a 14-0 lead and remained at least seven points ahead the rest of the way in the win. Johnson caught three passes for 117 yards in the win for the home team.
Lynch added a one-yard touchdown run midway through the fourth quarter for a 31-10 advantage to put the contest away. The final scoring drive for the Bulldogs came off a 41-yard interception return from redshirt freshman defensive back
Kendarius Jenkins (Tarboro, N.C.). Lynch passed for 147 yards on just four completions.

Jordan Terrell (Ramseur, N.C.), the leading rusher in NCAA Division II, finished with 166 yards on 39 carries and a score and helped the Bulldogs keep the ball away from the Eagles in the second half in the win. Terrell is just 37 yards away from 1,000 for the season. Barton finished with 389 yards of total offense including 237 on the ground.
On defense, Barton limited Carson-Newman to just 243 yards of total offense and forced four turnovers in the win. Barton redshirt freshman linebacker
Shane Perry (Holly Springs, N.C.) led all tacklers with 11 and had one-and-a-half of the Bulldogs' three quarterback sacks.
Carson-Newman's Lamarcus Brown (Mobile, Ala.) passed for 119 yards but was picked off twice while Troy Dendy (Laurens, S.C.) added 80 yards on the ground and a touchdown in the losing effort.
Barton travels to Mars Hill, N.C., next Saturday, October 9, to take on Mars Hill beginning at 1:30 p.m., while Carson-Newman faces Catawba on the road next Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
