Barton women’s soccer shuts out Erskine, 2-0, to snap skid

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's soccer team (6-5-1, 4-3-1) saw its three-match losing streak come to an end with a 2-0 victory over Erskine (0-10, 0-8) Saturday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas match at the Bulldogs Athletic Complex.

Barton freshman midfielder Cambria Oldham (Southport, N.C.) scored her first goal of the year – the match-winner – while senior defender Hailey Russell (Jacksonville, N.C.) scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season with just 10 seconds remaining in the contest in the win.

Oldham scored in the 48th minute when she received a quick pass from sophomore defender Hayley Grunberg (Pittsburgh, Pa.) off a corner kick and lobbed the ball over the keeper for the goal.

Russell knocked it home from about 20 yards out after receiving a pass from senior forward Brenna Keegan (Huntley, Ill.), who was credited with the assist for the Bulldogs.

Barton held a 18-0 advantage in shots taken while junior Rachel Cox (Wilson, N.C.) earned the win in goal.  Erskine's Abby McElveen (Anderson, S.C.) suffered the loss despite nine saves as the visitors continue to search for their first win of the year.

Barton travels to Murfreesboro, N.C., to take on Chowan on Tuesday beginning at 1:00 p.m., in a league match while Erskine hosts King (Tenn.) on Wednesday beginning at 5:00 p.m.
