WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's soccer team (7-3, 6-1) scored early and often in a 5-1 victory over Erskine (1-11-1, 1-5-1) Saturday morning in a Conference Carolinas match at the Bulldogs Athletic Complex.

Gabriel Slemer Lopes (Charlotte, N.C.) assisted on three of the scores as Barton stayed in the hunt for the league regular season championship.

After Erskine tied the score at one in the 11th minute by Dennis Cole (Freetown, SIERRA LEONE), Barton senior midfielder
Luis Hernandez Velasco (Guadarrama, SPAIN) responded with the match-winner just over two minutes later. The goal was Hernandez Velasco's team-leading eighth on the year.

Sebastian Stephen (Newton, N.J.) rounded out the scoring for the Bulldogs, who held a 24-5 advantage in shots taken.

Jacob Randolph (Metairie, La.) earned the win while Gabriel Matos (Santo Domingo, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC) suffered the loss for Erskine. Matos tallied eight saves on the morning.
Barton hits the road to take on Chowan on Tuesday beginning at 3:00 p.m., in Murfreesboro, N.C., in a league match while Erskine hosts King (Tenn.) on Wednesday starting at 7:30 p.m.
