WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's soccer team (5-5-1) fought hard but fell to No. 14 Catawba (11-0-1) by a 2-0 score Wednesday evening at the Bulldogs Athletic Complex.
Catawba's Helen Summerell (Statesville, N.C.) and Katie Beck (Clermont, Fla.) both found the back of the net as the Indians registered their eighth straight shutout in remaining unbeaten on the season.
Summerell notched the match-winner at the 15:49 mark of the first half while Beck headed the ball into the net off a corner kick from Kasey Hahn (Davidson, N.C.) in the 61st minute to put the contest away for the Indians.
Catawba held a 31-10 advantage in shots taken and Sierra Davis (Cornelius, N.C.) earned the shutout win in goal while Barton junior goalkeeper
Rachel Cox (Wilson, N.C.) suffered the loss despite 12 saves on the evening.
Barton looks to get back on the winning track on Saturday when the Bulldogs host Erskine in a Conference Carolinas match at 1:30 p.m., while Catawba faces Mars Hill in Mars Hill, N.C., on Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m.
