WILSON, N.C. – The Barton College women's volleyball team (4-4, 1-2) picked up its first Conference Carolinas win of the season with a 3-1 victory over Belmont Abbey (1-14, 1-4) Friday evening at Wilson Gymnasium.
Barton won by scores of 17-25, 25-22, 25-18 and 25-14 and snapped a three-match losing streak in the process.
Barton was led by junior outside hitter
Allison Gambill (Taylorsville, N.C.) with a match-high 23 kills while sophomore right side hitter
Caroline Schoonover (Lutz, Fla.) added 14 kills and freshman libero
Brooke Clute (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) totaled 25 digs in the win.
Senior setter
Sarah Kirk (Pearland, Texas) added her fourth double-double of the season – 28 assists and 11 digs – for the Bulldogs, who limited the Crusaders to a .149 hitting percentage in the victory. Belmont Abbey's Cameron Young (Omaha, Neb.) finished with 13 kills but the visitors suffered their third straight setback.
Barton has a quick turnaround and will host North Greenville in a league match Saturday morning beginning at 10:00 a.m., while Belmont Abbey faces Chowan on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m., in Murfreesboro, N.C.
