FAIRFAX, Va. – The Barton College men's volleyball team (0-1) fell in its first contest of the season by a 3-0 score to George Mason University (3-1), an NCAA Division I school, Saturday evening at the Recreation Athletic Complex. The Patriots won by scores of 25-13, 25-13 and 25-22.
George Mason, winners of two straight games, was led by Omar Hoyos (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) with 11 kills and six digs while Zach Talamoa (Fairfax, Va.) added 34 assists in the victory for the home team. George Mason also hit .448 for the match and sweated out a close third set to take the sweep.
Barton was led by freshman right side hitter
Jayton Hall (Queen Creek, Ariz.) with 10 kills and junior outside hitter
Adrian Iglesias (Guaynabo, PUERTO RICO) with eight kills in the losing effort. Freshman setter
Bartosz Slawinski (Radom, POLAND) added 21 assists but the Bulldogs were hurt by 12 reception errors.
Barton opens the home portion of its schedule on Friday at 7:30 p.m., against Erskine at Wilson Gymnasium in a Conference Carolinas match while George Mason takes on VCU on Monday at 1:00 p.m., in Richmond Va.
