Box Score MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Barton men's lacrosse team (1-6) picked up its first victory of the 2020 campaign with a 14-8 triumph on the road over Montevallo (Ala.) (3-4) Saturday morning at Falcons Stadium.
Barton sophomore attacker Mason Chaney (Dunkirk, Md.) led all scorers with five goals to go along with a pair of assists for seven total points while junior attacker Zachary Hodge (Murrieta, Calif.) added three scores the Bulldogs reeled off the first eight goals of the second half to take complete control after trailing by a 7-6 advantage at intermission.
Montevallo's Thomas Vaesen (Victoria, British Columbia, CANADA) finished with a team-high four goals but the Falcons suffered their third straight loss.
Chaney leads the team in total points with 23 in addition to a squad-tying 15 goals and scored the game-winner today. Barton junior Matt Stocks (Endicott, N.Y.) came up big in goal, totaling 22 saves as the Bulldogs were able to pull it out despite the Falcons' 48-39 advantage in shots taken. Montevallo also held a 27-10 edge in ground balls while Kyle Little (West Milford, N.J.) suffered the loss in goal despite stopping 14 shots.
Barton steps back into Conference Carolinas play on Saturday, March 21, when the Bulldogs travel to Banner Elk, N.C., to take on Lees-McRae beginning at 1:00 p.m., while Montevallo hosts Quincy next Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m.
