Barton men's lacrosse falls to Tusculum, 14-8, at home in 2020 season opener

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's lacrosse team (0-1) opened the 2020 season with a 14-8 setback at home to Tusculum (1-0) on Saturday afternoon at Electric Supply Company Field.

The Pioneers' A.J. Hems (Laurens, S.C.) scored a match-high five goals while Nate Raymond (Traceys Landing, Md.) added two scores as the visitors raced to a 6-1 advantage midway through the second period and remained in control the rest of the way.  Hems had four of those six goals to propel the Pioneers.

Barton sophomore midfielder Mark Crawford (Chesapeake Beach, Md.) led the home team with two goals in the losing effort.  Tusculum held a 43-33 edge in shots taken while Ross Geiger (Calgary, Alberta, CANADA) earned the win in goal after making four saves.  Barton junior goalkeeper Matt Stocks (Endicott, N.Y.) suffered the loss despite totaling 12 saves on the afternoon.

Barton next travels to Washington, D.C., to face the District of Columbia on Tuesday, February 11, at 2:00 p.m., while Tusculum travels to Gaffney, S.C., to take on Limestone Friday beginning at 7:00 p.m.
