Box Score WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's lacrosse team (0-5) put on a furious rally and scored the final five goals but ultimately fell to Wilmington (Del.) (3-0), 12-11, Saturday afternoon at the Electric Supply Company Field.
The Wildcats' Logan Stinson (Lafayette, La.) scored a team-high three goals - all in the first half – while Jacob Herman (Palmyra, Pa.) added two goals and two assists as Wilmington was able to hold on after taking a 9-1 lead at halftime and an 11-2 advantage early in the third period.
Barton was led by junior attacker Jake Copio (Smyrna, Del.) with a game-high four goals as the Bulldogs scored the last five goals in six-plus minutes including two in the last 36 seconds but Wilmington was able to escape. Barton sophomore attacker Mason Chaney (Dunkirk, Md.) added three scores in the losing effort.
In goal, the Wildcats' Noah Given (Middletown, Del.) earned the victory after stopping 14 shots while the Bulldogs' Trevor Witholt (Murrieta, Calif.) suffered the loss after playing the first half and tallying seven saves. The Wildcats also held a 40-35 advantage in shots taken in the victory.
Barton hits the road to take on Emmanuel (Ga.) in a Conference Carolinas contest on Thursday at 7:00 p.m., in Franklin Springs, Ga., while Wilmington takes on Chowan in Murfreesboro, N.C., on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m.
