Box Score 2 PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Barton softball team (4-8) fell in a doubleheader to UNC Pembroke (8-8), 6-3 and 8-0, Wednesday afternoon at Braves Field.
Game One – UNC Pembroke 6, Barton 3
UNC Pembroke's Tatum Brummitt (Garner, N.C.) and Jordan Adcox (Fayetteville, N.C.) hit back-to-back home runs in the second inning while Brummitt finished with two runs batted in as the Braves jumped out to a 4-0 advantage after three innings of play and held on for the win.
Barton sophomore pinch hitter Gracen Rogers (Plymouth, N.C.) and sophomore catcher McCrae Knapp (Hertford, N.C.) both drove in runs and the Bulldogs outhit the Braves by an 11-8 margin despite the setback.
On the mound, UNC Pembroke's Malerie Leviner (Whiteville, N.C.) improved to 4-2 after striking out 11 batters over six innings of work while Raygan Larson (Cordele, Ga.) earned her second save of the season. Barton freshman AnnaKate Gilchrist (Clayton, N.C.) (1-4) was tagged with the loss.
Game Two – UNC Pembroke 8, Barton 0 (six innings)
UNC Pembroke's Jordan Hall (St. Charles, Ill.) (3-3) pitched a four-hit shutout while striking out five batters and Rendi Wetherington (Vanceboro, N.C.) hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning as the Braves run-ruled the Bulldogs in the sweep. Barton freshman Emma Liles (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) (1-3) suffered the setback.
Barton will look to bounce back on Friday when the Bulldogs host Mercy in a doubleheader at Jeffries Field beginning at 2:00 p.m., while UNC Pembroke hosts Limestone on Friday at 3:00 p.m.
