Box Score HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Barton men's lacrosse team (0-4) couldn't hold a five-goal lead after the first period of play and fell to Coker (4-1), 19-12, Tuesday afternoon at the Cobras Athletic Field.
Joe Venazio (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) scored five times for Coker, who took control with 10 straight goals after trailing by a 10-7 score just over two minutes into the second half.
Barton was led by sophomore midfielder Mark Crawford (Chesapeake Beach, Md.) with six goals – increasing his team-leading total to 13 on the year – despite the loss. Coker held close advantages in both shots taken (42-39) and ground balls (43-37) in the victory.
In goal, Coker's Chris Hagy (Bel Air, Md.) earned the win after making 12 saves while junior Matt Stocks (Endicott, N.Y.) suffered the loss for Barton despite making 10 stops. Freshman midfielder B.J. Wilson (Tampa, Fla.) and senior midfielder Bodin Nichols (Brainerd, Minn.) added two goals each for the Bulldogs, who led by a 7-2 advantage after the opening stanza.
Barton will look for its first victory of the season when the Bulldogs return home to face Newberry on Saturday beginning at 3:30 p.m., while Coker hosts Embry-Riddle (Fla.) on Sunday afternoon beginning at 1:00 p.m.
