Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Barton men's lacrosse team (0-2) couldn't hold a five-goal first-half advantage and fell in overtime to the District of Columbia (1-1), 17-16, Tuesday afternoon on the Firebirds' field.
D.C.'s Zander Torres (Kelowna, British Columbia, CANADA) scored the golden goal just 49 seconds into the extra frame as the Firebirds rallied from a 6-1 deficit early in the second quarter to take the victory. Torres and Joseph Cote (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, CANADA) both scored four times for the District of Columbia, who also rallied from a 14-10 deficit in the final stanza.
Barton was led by sophomore midfielder Mark Crawford (Chesapeake Beach, Md.) and junior attacker Jake Copio (Smyrna, Del.) with four goals each despite the setback. Crawford forced overtime with a goal with 2:05 remaining in the fourth period after the Firebirds rallied to take the lead.
Barton lost despite holding a 49-31 advantage in shots taken. In goal, the Firebirds' Matt Miller (Smyrna, Del.) earned the victory after stopping six shots while sophomore Trevor Witholt (Murrieta, Calif.) suffered the loss for the Bulldogs. Witholt made seven saves on the day.
Barton returns home to face Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday at 2:00 p.m., at the Electric Supply Company Field while the District of Columbia plays Chestnut Hill on Saturday on the road. The time is to be determined for now.
