Barton men's lacrosse takes setback to Tusculum on the road, 22-12

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – The Barton men's lacrosse team (1-7) fell to Tusculum (5-1) by a 22-12 score Saturday afternoon at Pioneer Field.  The Pioneers are members of the South Atlantic Conference.

Tusculum was led by Keegan Bell (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, CANADA) with a game-high six goals while Liam Macdonald (Coquitlam, British Columbia, CANADA) totaled seven points – four goals and three assists – as the Pioneers pushed their winning streak to four games.

Barton junior midfielder Bodin Nichols (Brainerd, Minn.) totaled a team-high four goals despite the setback.  A goal by Nichols at the 13:30 mark of the second period cut the Pioneers' advantage to 6-4 before the home squad responded with six consecutive scores to take control. 

The Bulldogs' freshman attacker Jonathan Schmidt (Brampton, Ontario, CANADA) added two goals but freshman goalkeeper Trevor Witholt (Murrieta, Calif.) suffered the loss despite totaling 12 saves.  Tusculum's Ross Geiger (Calgary, Alberta, CANADA) earned the win in goal after stopping 13 shots as the Pioneers held the margin in both shots taken (55-36) and ground balls (53-23).

Barton returns home to take on Embry-Riddle (Fla.) on Tuesday beginning at 4:00 p.m., at the Electric Supply Company Stadium while Tusculum travels to Hickory, N.C., to take on Lenoir-Rhyne next Saturday at 2:00 p.m.  The Bulldogs will be looking to snap a six-game losing streak.
