WINGATE, N.C. – The Barton men's and women's cross country teams wrapped up the 2019 season with several individuals competing at the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Championships Saturday morning on the campus of Wingate University.
On the men's side, No. 18 Queens (N.C.) captured its second straight regional title while UNC Pembroke's Joshua Chepkesir (Eldoret, KENYA) won the 10K race with a time of 30:30. Augusta (second) and Mount Olive (third) also advanced to the 2019 NCAA Division II National Championship, which is taking place on Saturday, November 23, in Sacramento, Calif., at the Haggin Oaks Golf Complex.
The Bulldogs had three individuals running in the race, led by Xavier McLamb (Newton Grove, N.C.). McLamb ran the 10K course in 36:21 and placed 112th overall.
Queens was also the top school in the women's competition as the Royals won their third straight regional title. Queens had four runners in the top 10 while Mount Olive's Leah Hanle (Lichtenstein, GERMANY), the Conference Carolinas Women's Runner of the Year, captured the regional championship. Hanle clocked a 20:53 over the 6K course. Flagler and Wingate finished second and third, respectively, to earn automatic berths to nationals.
Barton had two women's runners in the race: freshman Isabel Reed (Wilson, N.C.) and sophomore Morgan Lane (Elm City, N.C.). Reed took 83rd overall with a time of 24:48 while Lane finished 107th in 25:57.
