MURFREESBORO, N.C.-Barton College outshot host Chowan University by a 47-1 margin in a 3-0 non-conference women's soccer victory at Hawks Field on Sunday afternoon.
The Lady Bulldogs extended their unbeaten streak to four games (3-0-1). Barton scored three goals on both Saturday and Sunday in picking up back-to-back wins to improve to 8-3-2 overall.
BC fired 19 shots in the first half but found itself in a scoreless deadlock at in the intermission with junior Marissa Ghani stopping all five of the Lady Bulldogs attempts on frame over the first 45 minutes.
Just like a day earlier, Barton broke out with three second-half goals in rapid succession. Sophomore Kathryn Smith, junior Ashley Batchelor and junior Emily Futral all scored within 14 minutes of each other to provide more than enough offense against Chowan.
The Lady Bulldogs had the opportunity to score more with the 47 total shots but Ghani made 9 more stops in the second half for 14 total to go along with a 15th team save.
Smith netted the game-winner in the 64th minute on a shot to the near post that was assisted by freshman Lane Brooks. Batchelor doubled up the visitors cushion with her goal in the 69th minute. Batchelor's tally that was set up on a freshman Rachel Krueger assist, was just out of the reach of Ghani. Futral finished off the flurry in the 78th by scoring on a crossing pass by freshman Nikki Helton.
Batchelor, Smith, Brooks, Krueger and Helton all produced points on consecutive days as the Royal Blue and White scored a half dozen goals on the weekend.
Brooks, who is Barton's top scorer with six goals and 16 points, led the Lady Bulldogs offensive onslaught with 10 shots.
Senior Carson Moore was untested in net in recording her sixth shutout of the season. Moore, who is undefeated in each of her last seven starts (6-0-1), lowered her goals against average to 0.39.
Freshman Felice Hewitt took Chowan's only shot in the 88th minute. Hewitt's attempted was blocked.
The Lady Bulldogs had all seven of the contest's corner kicks.
Barton will complete a home-and-away series against Chowan when the Lady Bulldogs entertain the Hawks on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
