FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga.-Freshman Jens Madsen Hordvik made five saves in producing his second straight shutout in net and he got plenty of offensive support as Barton College posted a convincing 3-0 Conference Carolinas men's soccer victory over host Emmanuel College on Saturday night.
Senior Jonathan Rembecki and sophomores Alex David and Austin Tausch all scored as the Bulldogs improved to 7-4 overall and 3-2 in the league
Barton was in a three-way tie for sixth place in the conference standings along with Emmanuel but moved into sole possession of fourth place with the important triumph. The Lions moved to 5-4-2 overall and 2-3 in the league.
The Bulldogs, who were held to one or fewer goals in each of their last four games preceding Saturday's contest, broke out for three goals by spreading out the field and making efficient and accurate passes.
BC had four assists on the night to demonstrate its team work.
David led the Bulldogs with a three-point performance and factored on Barton's first two tallies. David put the visitors on the board in the 30th minute with his fifth goal of the season. David's strike that proved to be the game-winner was assisted by senior Nick Ahlquist.
Barton maintained a 1-nil cushion into the second half until David assisted on Rembecki's goal in the 58th minute. Tausch added an insurance goal for the Bulldogs in the 83th minute that was assisted by the senior duo of Erik Pajunk and Dante De Luca.
Both Rembecki and Tausch have two goals on the season while Pajunk (6G, 4A, 16P), David (5G, 2A, 12P) and De Luca (4G, 2A, 10P) all increased their team-leading point totals.
BC finished with a 10-7 shot advantage and a slight 5-3 edge on corner kicks.
Hordvik (5-2) made three of his five saves in the first half when the score was close. Hordvik stopped junior Mark Shrosbree three times including on a header in the 23rd minute and on another crack in the 42nd minute.
Nine different Bulldogs took shots with De Luca leading the way with two arrant attempts. Junior Kevin Strassburger, freshman Alex Blake and freshman Michael Barrell all had shots stopped by EC freshman goalie Ryan Brose.
Barton returns home for a Conference Carolinas clash against No. 6 Southeast Region ranked Pfeiffer University on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
