SALISBURY, N.C.-Sophomore goalkeeper Carson Moore made a career-high 16 saves for visiting Barton College in a 2-0 non-conference loss at Catawba College on Saturday afternoon at Frock Athletic Complex.
The Indians took all 28 shots recorded in the contest and posted its second straight shutout to level its overall record to 2-2. The Lady Bulldogs played impressive defense but was unable to transition into the offensive third much and slipped to 1-2.
Barton defenders including junior Adrianna Jimenez, sophomore Nicole Smith, freshman Christina McQuoid, freshman Jessica Bates and freshman Lindsay Rembecki helped keep the score close as Catawba relentlessly pressured the visitors box.
Moore made seven consecutive saves to start play to keep the match scoreless for most of the first half.
Taylor Arrowood put the Tribe on the board in the 43rd minute. Arrowood scored the game-winner on a pass from Amy Iwanicki.
Barton's best scoring chance came in the first half when junior Taylor DeMartini took a corner kick in the 28th minute. The Lady Bulldogs were whistled offsides twice to thwart a couple other offensive chances.
Amy Iwanicki added an insurance goal for the Indians when she scored in the 55th minute on a play set up by Mary Kirkman.
Moore faced a total of 18 shots on goal and came up clutch 16 times, surpassing her prior collegiate high of 14 saves last year.
Barton returns home and will host Belmont Abbey College in a Conference Carolinas clash on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
