Barton bats heat up in road split

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.-The Lady Bulldogs scored 29 runs on 31 hits in a non-conference doubleheader split at Fayetteville State University on Sunday. The host Broncos won the first game 12-9 before Barton blitzed past FSU 20-5 (5) in the second contest.

GAME ONE: Fayetteville State 12, Barton 9

Barton held a 5-1 lead before Fayetteville State erupted for five runs in the fifth and six more runs in the sixth. The Bulldogs tried to rally with four runs in the seventh but fell three runs short of completing the comeback.

Seven of the Broncos 12 runs were unearned because of four Barton errors.

McFadden was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI including a run-producing triple in the third. Webb knocked in a pair and junior Kendall Street (Bertie, N.C.) had a two-run single in her only plate appearance.

Pittman was tagged with the loss allowing the game-tying and go-ahead runs to the Broncos in the fifth inning. Junior Emily Jordan (Goldsboro, N.C.) recorded three strikeouts in the start.

FSU freshman Jessica Randolph (Pinetops, N.C.) did most of the damage for the hosts with a bases-clearing, three-run double in the fifth and a two-run double in the sixth. Sophomore flame thrower Olivia Peavey (Siler City, N.C.) fanned seven in the complete-game victory.

GAME TWO: Barton 20, Fayetteville 5 (5 innings)

Barton quickly bounced back with a 22-hit assault in the night cap to earn the split.

The two teams traded four runs in the first and one run in the second before Barton took control of the 5-5 game with 10 runs in the fourth. The onslaught featured 12 total hits and 16 Bulldogs stepping into the batter's box. Herrin, Webb, Pittman and sophomore Rebecka Morgan (Huntingtown, Md.) all got two hits.
