Box Score

by Kevin Buczek

WILSON, N.C.-Sophomore forward Taylor Parrish scored a pair of goals for host Barton College in a 4-2 non-conference women's soccer loss to Newberry College on Saturday afternoon.

The Wolves – currently ranked tied for No. 10 in the Southeast Region – improved to 7-4 on the season after rallying from an early one-goal deficit. The Lady Bulldogs fell to 2-8 with their sixth straight loss.

"We played extremely well today and we're really starting to turn the corner in this program," Barton head coach Ike Onyeador said.

Parrish continues her torrid play scoring her team-high sixth and seventh goals of the season. The Greenville, N.C., product has scored four goals in the Lady Bulldogs last three games.

Coach Onyeador added, "Taylor Parrish continues to develop and it's starting to show on the scoreboard."

Parrish provided Barton with an early 1-nil advantage just three minutes and 25 seconds into play when she stuffed away a senior Anna Tressler (Mount Airy, Md.) service by lofting a precision shot over Newberry goalie Megan Hrenchir.

The Wolves netted the equalizer and go-ahead tallies in a 46 second span in the 14th minute. Mary Stanton completed the first goal on a series of nice passes while Ashley Reetz put the visitors ahead for good with a shot from the right wing.

Newberry held a slim 2-1 edge through halftime before an Amber Chase unassisted goal in the 53rd minute increased the Wolves advantage to two goals.

Parrish pulled Barton to within one with her second score in the 84th minute. Freshman Breanna Briggs (Hubert, N.C.) was credited with an assist on the play.

The Bulldogs, who were outshot 19-10, were held without a shot in the final six minutes ending the comeback attempt. Reetz added an insurance goal with 25 seconds left in the game to make the final margin of victory two goals for Newberry.

Freshman netminder Carson Moore (Greenville, N.C.) made seven saves for the Royal Blue and White. Hrenchir totaled three stops for the Wolves.

"Everyone played well," expressed Onyeador. "Amber Brush and Anna Tressler had top notch performances and Carson Moore continues to play well in goal."

Barton next hosts Chowan University on Thursday, October 13 at 7 p.m. (note this is a revised date and time as it was originally scheduled for Monday at 5 p.m.).
