LAURINBURG, N.C.-Junior outside hitter Kati Wood (Pasadena, Md.) ripped a match-high 15 kills and lifted up 14 digs to lead visiting Barton College to a 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-15) Conference Carolinas women's volleyball victory over host St. Andrews University on Friday night at Harris Court.
The Lady Bulldogs improved to 7-10 overall and 3-6 in the conference on the strength of Wood's fourth double-double of the season. The Knights slipped to 2-15 and 0-9.
Wood recorded her 15 kills on 28 swings with only two errors for an impressive .464 hitting percentage. Barton hit .216 as a team while holding St. Andrews to just .090.
Freshman Melissa Cochran (Knightdale, N.C.) followed Wood with five spikes. Freshman Meka Hoover (Seagrove, N.C.) just missed a double-double with a match-high 27 assists and nine digs, while serving up two aces. Classmate Amanda Grandy (Rolesville, N.C.) scooped up a team-high 21 digs. Freshman Sky Square (Manassas, Va.) notched a team-high three blocks.
Barton hit .429 in the first set to set the tone of the match before completing the season-series sweep.
The Lady Bulldogs next visit league rival Coker College in Hartsville, S.C., on Saturday at 2 p.m.
