MOUNT OLIVE, N.C.-The Barton College women's soccer team suffered a 3-0 Conference Carolinas road loss at division leading Mount Olive College on Tuesday.
The Trojans (10-3-2 Overall, 8-3-1) clinched the East Division title and will be the No. 2 seed in the 2011 Conference Carolinas Tournament that starts next week. The Lady Bulldogs (3-11-1, 2-9-1) will wrap up the season at Methodist College on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
Lindsey Stanley, who ranks second in the conference in scoring, put the hosts ahead for good just nine minutes and 48 seconds into play with her 16th strike of the season.
Mount Olive held a commanding 11-1 shot advantage in the first 45 minutes but Barton freshman goalkeeper Carson Moore (Greenville, N.C.) made seven of her 12 saves in the opening period.
Moore – ranked 16th nationally in total saves – has had 10-plus saves in seven matches.
Tia Rose provided the Trojans with some breathing room with a pair of strikes in less than a two minute surge. Rose blasted her first goal in the 66th minute from 10-yards out and then stole the ball and scored her second tally in the 68th minute.
Barton was held to just one shot in each half. Senior Brittany Bobbitt (Manassas, Va.) attempted a header in the 33rd minute and classmate Ashley Mikulski (Youngsville, N.C.) ripped a shot off the post in the 65th minute.
The Trojans – who were regionally ranked 10th last week before falling out of the most current NSCAA Southeast Region Poll that was released earlier that day – have five shutouts on the season.
Mount Olive finished with a 21-2 shot cushion and a 4-1 corner kick edge.
