WILSON, N.C.-Host Barton College outshot Coker College 20-8 but neither team could find the back of the net as the two programs played to a 0-0 double overtime Conference Carolinas women's soccer tie on Wednesday evening.
Sophomore Taylor Parrish (Smithfield, N.C.) and freshmen Amber Brush (Princeton, N.C.) and Breanna Briggs (Hubert, N.C.) combined for 14 shots for the Lady Bulldogs in the scoreless affair.
Barton (3-9-1 Overall, 2-7-1 Conf.) remained three points ahead of Coker (1-13-1, 1-7-1) for fourth place in the East Division of the Conference Carolinas standings as each program earned one point for the tie.
"We moved the ball well, but still need to find the back of the net," said Barton head coach Ike Onyeador. "We got to get over the hump of only playing well and start getting positive results when we are deserving of them."
Seven different players accounted for Coker's eight shots with senior Kerrie Cribb (Manning, S.C.) being the only Cobra to take two shots. Coker had its best chance in the 65th minute when the Cobras were awarded a penalty kick after Barton junior Sara Treadwell (Wilson, N.C.) fouled junior Becca Blackmon (Manning, S.C.) inside the 18-yard box. Junior Sarah Rountree (Plantation, Fla.) missed the PK attempt wide.
Coker junior Haley Gibson (Chesterfield, S.C.) and Barton freshman Carson Moore (Greenville, N.C.) each were up to the task in net for their respective club. Gibson rejected nine Bulldog shots on goal while Moore stopped all three Cobra strikes on frame.
Moore has three shutouts in her rookie season. Gibson made a pair of saves on Parrish in the final five minutes of regulation to preserve her first clean slate.
Parrish and Brush each had five shots. Parrish recorded a game-high four shots on goal.
The Bulldogs had the only shot attempts in overtime with Barton taking six shots in the first 10 minute period including a trio of attempts by Briggs and two great chances by Brush in the second OT that just missed from close range.
Barton will celebrate Senior Day during Homecoming 2011 on Saturday when the Lady Bulldogs host Conference Carolinas newcomer King College at 1 p.m.
