Ian McMichael will be entering his fifth season as Barton’s Head Men's Soccer Coach in 2021.

This past spring, McMichael led the Bulldogs to a 9-2 record and a berth in the championship match of the Conference Carolinas Tournament.  In addition, six players garnered all-league honors.

In 2019, McMichael led the Bulldogs to their best record in five seasons with a 13-5-1 mark and a 7-3 ledger in Conference Carolinas play.   All told, McMichael has a 35-26-3 record with Barton.

Prior to the Wilson, N.C., school, McMichael served as Head Coach of NCAA Division III Hampden-Sydney (2015-16) for two falls and 13 victories and spent two seasons as Associate Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at Pfeiffer University (2013-14).

McMichael helped the Falcons improved from 1-15-12 to 10-8-2 during his first season in 2013 before winning 17 games and a Conference Carolinas Championship the next season.  In addition, McMichael was an integral part of recruiting 34 student-athletes including several who helped guide Pfeiffer to a perfect 25-0 record and an NCAA Division II Championship in 2015.

In two seasons in charge of the Hampden-Sydney program, McMichael garnered 13 victories. His team began the 2016 season with five straight victories, the best start in program history, and tied for the fourth-most shutouts in a single season with six blank sheets.

McMichael’s coaching experience also includes stops at UNC Wilmington and Xavier, a pair of NCAA Division I programs.  Following his stint at Xavier, McMichael was the Head Coach at Topsail High School in Hampstead, N.C., for three seasons and led a number of teams at the club level including the Cape Fear Soccer Club (new Wilmington Hammerheads) in Wilmington, N.C., and the FCCA in Charlotte, N.C.

McMichael holds a bachelor's degree in journalism and electronic media from the University of Tennessee and a Master of Arts in teaching from UNC Wilmington.  McMichael and his wife, Tina, are the proud parents of three:  Willa, Koen and Hazel.
