Brad Wheeler

Brad Wheeler has been the Assistant Men's Lacrosse Coach and a part of Barton Men's Lacrosse program since its inaugural season in 2019.  

Wheeler was a 20-year Telecommunications Operations Executive and the Founder of FvLax Goblins Youth REC Program in North Carolina in 2011 and currently teaches Technology, Engineering and Design at Fuquay-Varina High School in the Wake County Public School System.

Wheeler led the effort and was instrumental in the establishment of the Varsity (2013) and Junior varsity (2016) lacrosse programs at Fuquay-Varina High School in Fuquay-Varina, N.C.  He became Head Coach in 2020 and has led the Bengals to (3) consecutive Conference Championships (2020, 2021, 20222) and voted Conference Coach of the Year in each season.  In 2021 he was selected as the  (NC) US Lacrosse Coach of the Year after his team finished 13-2 and was eliminated in the 3rd Round of playoffs by eventual State Champion Cardinal Gibbons.

Known for building positive relationships with coaches and players at camps, clinics and youth programs he has been selected to coach a number of travel programs including: Cougar Select, Red Devil United, Bucktown, Goblin Lacrosse and Team91 programs in N.C

Wheeler coached the 2022 North Carolina Team that won the 2018 National Lacrosse Classic (NLC) and went on to coach the U15 Team USA in the 2018 Brogden Cup that December.

Originally from Corning, N.Y., Brad was a Captain, All-League and All-Section player in lacrosse and football for Peekskill High School in Section 1 in Westchester County, New York.  Wheeler was recruited and played lacrosse at the University of Massachusetts and also played at NCAA Division III powerhouse Salisbury State (Md.) before earning his degree and wrapping up his football and lacrosse collegiate careers at NCAA Division II Pace University (N.Y.).

While attending Pace University for two years, Wheeler established season and career records for both points and goals for a midfielder as well as earning MVP, Rookie-of-the-Year and All-Knickerbocker Conference honors and being named a Team Captain.  Wheeler played five seasons with the Championship Dallas Lacrosse Team (1995-00) prior to moving to North Carolina in 2000 with his wife, KC, and starting their family.

In 2014, Brad was enshrined to the Peekskill High School Hall of Fame for his prior Lacrosse and Football accomplishments and also his representation of the school and community.  Wheeler and his wife KC have two sons – Logan and Drew – who both attend Barton College.

Logan was a three-time team Captain and voted the 2020 WRAL High School OT NC Lacrosse Player of the Year and held school records for most points, assist and ground balls at Fuquay-Varina and now attends Barton College majoring in Business Administration with a minor in Mathematics in the 3+2 MBA program.

Drew was selected as a 2022 US Lacrosse All-American & US Lacrosse Academic All-America, he was also awarded the MVP in the Bull City All-Star and SouthEast Invitational Senior All-Star games following his senior High School Season.  Drew holds multiple school and state records as a goaltender from his career at Fuquay-Varina High School.  Drew also is majoring in Business and following the 3+2 MBA Program at Barton College as well.
