Barton softball takes two from Winston-Salem State, 2-0 and 8-2, Thursday at home

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton softball team (17-23) swept a non-conference doubleheader from Winston-Salem State (5-13), 2-0 and 8-2, Thursday afternoon at Jeffries Field.

Game One – Barton 2, Winston-Salem State 0
Barton sophomore Emily Bobo (Mount Ephraim, N.J.) (8-10) threw her second consecutive shutout, allowing just one hit while striking out 12 batters in the victory.

Barton freshman pinch hitter Chaleigh Currin (Stem, N.C.) provided the lone offense of the contest, hitting a two-run triple in the bottom of the fifth inning to break a scoreless tie.

Winston-Salem State's Koralie Morin (Saint-Eustache, Quebec City, CANADA) suffered the loss.

Game Two – Barton 8, Winston-Salem State 2
Barton scored seven combined runs in the fifth and sixth innings combined to take control and finish off the sweep of the Rams.

Senior outfielder Makenzie Cyzick (Dayton, Va.) hit the game-winning RBI single in the fifth frame and finished with three hits, three runs scored and two runs batted in.

Currin added a second RBI triple in the contest while freshman Haley Inman (Stokesdale, N.C.) (7-10) earned the complete game victory.

For Winston-Salem State, Riley Demers (Greensboro, N.C.) hit a two-run double while Nevaeh Cruz (Aurora, Ill.) suffered the loss.

Barton remains at home to take on rival Mount Olive in a Conference Carolinas doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon beginning at 1:00 p.m., in Mount Olive, N.C.  Winston-Salem State next hosts Fayetteville State in a doubleheader on Friday, April 10, at 1:00 p.m.
