WILSON, N.C. – The Barton softball team (15-23, 6-14) split a Conference Carolinas doubleheader with Ferrum (9-25, 2-16) Saturday afternoon at Jeffries Field. The Bulldogs won in six innings in the first contest, 8-0, while the Panthers salvaged the split with an 8-6 victory in the nightcap.
Game One – Barton 8, Ferrum 0 (six innings)
Barton sophomore
Emily Bobo (Mount Ephraim, N.J.) (7-10) threw a three-hit shutout while striking out for batters as the Bulldogs run-ruled the Panthers and snapped a four-game losing streak.
Offensively, Barton junior outfielder
Makenzie Burroughs (Morehead City, N.C.) hit a two-run triple while freshman catcher
McKenzie Holloway (Montpelier, Va.) added two hits and two RBI in the triumph.
Ferrum's Chloe Constantino (Kearneysville, W.Va.) fell to 3-11 after suffering the loss.
Game Two – Ferrum 8, Barton 6
The Panthers took advantage of three Bulldog errors which led ot three unearned runs and the visitors took control with three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to salvage the split.
Ferrum's Abby Bradberry (Roanoke, Va.) finished with a pair of hits and an RBI while Emily Wood (Huddleston, Va.) (4-7) earned the win and drove in a run on a sacrifice fly in the process.
Burroughs drove in two more runs and senior second baseman
Madison Mercer (Wilson, N.C.) had three hits and an RBI but freshman
Chaleigh Currin (Stem, N.C.) (2-2) was tagged with the loss for the Bulldogs.
Barton remains at home to take on Winston-Salem State in a doubleheader on Thursday, April 2, at 1:00 p.m., while Ferrum hosts league-member UNC Pembroke on Wednesday starting at 1:00 p.m., in a doubleheader as well.
