ROME, Ga. – The Barton softball team (14-18, 5-9) split a Conference Carolinas doubleheader on Saturday against Shorter (11-24, 5-11) Saturday afternoon at Alton Park Complex. The Hawks prevailed in the first contest by a 4-3 score before Barton won the nightcap, 7-1, to salvage the split.
Game 1 – Shorter 4, Barton 3
Shorter's Anna Sanders (Huntsville, Ala.) hit a two-run single in the first frame as the Hawks held off a late Bulldogs' rally to take the contest.
Madison Bishop (Marietta, Ga.) (3-4) earned the complete game victory while striking out eight batters in the triumph.

MacKenzie Taylor (Mebane, N.C.) and senior outfielder
Makenzie Cyzick (Draper, Va.) both finished with a pair of hits and an RBI in the setback. Freshman
Haley Inman (Stokesdale, N.C.) (6-8) suffered the loss for the Bulldogs.
Game 2 – Barton 7, Shorter 1

Chaleigh Currin (Stem, N.C.) (2-1) allowed one unearned run while pitching into the fifth inning in addition to six strikeouts in picking up the win.
Senior first baseman
Savannah Olson (La Plata, Md.) and senior third baseman
Destany Blake (Alliance, Ohio) both tallied a pair of hits and two RBI as the visitors were able to manage the split.
Shorter's Rylee Gattis (Southside, Ala.) fell to 4-9 after taking the loss.
Barton remains on the road to take on Chowan in a conference doubleheader in Murfreesboro, N.C., on Tuesday starting at 1:00 p.m. Shorter travels to Dahlonega, Ga., to face North Georgia in a doubleheader on Tuesday, March 24, at 3:00 p.m.
