WILSON, N.C. – The Barton baseball team (7-17, 5-13) took both games of a doubleheader over Chowan (3-19, 3-15), 11-5 and 14-6, Saturday afternoon at Nixon Field to complete the Conference Carolinas weekend series sweep.
Game One – Barton 11, Chowan 5 (seven innings)
Barton senior third baseman
Gregory Melo (New York, N.Y.) hit a two-run triple and was one of four Bulldogs to drive in two runs in the first game victory.
Barton sophomore shortstop
Tyler Hughesman (Mooresville, N.C.) added three hits and two RBI and drove in the game-winning in the third frame as the Bulldogs rallied from a 3-0 deficit in the first inning to take the win.
Barton freshman
Joshua Wolkin (Atlanta, Ga.) improved to 2-0 after the earning the win in relief while Chowan's Ahmaad Goldson (Newport News, Va.) (2-3) was tagged with the loss.
Game Two – Barton 14, Chowan 6
Barton junior outfielder
J.J. Faulkner (Wilmington, N.C.) finished with three hits and three runs batted in including a two-run single as part of a seven-run fifth frame to break the contest and complete the sweep for the home team.
The Bulldogs finished with 16 hits while graduate student
Nathan Waldridge (Louisville, Ky.) (1-1) earned the victory in relief.
Chowan's Derrick Davis (Tarboro, N.C.) hit a solo home run but Tristan Stancil (Raleigh, N.C.) (0-2) was tagged with the loss for the visitors.
Barton remains at home to take on Lenoir-Rhyne Tuesday beginning at 3:00 p.m. Meanwhile, Chowan hosts league-foe Erskine on Friday starting at 2:00 p.m.
