Barton flag football rolls to home doubleheader sweep of Chowan, 54-0 and 66-0

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton flag football team (4-1, 2-1) won two games handily over Chowan (0-5, 0-3), 54-0 and 66-0, Wednesday evening in a pair of Conference Carolinas contests at Electric Supply Company Field and Truist Stadium.

Game One – Barton 54, Chowan 0
Barton freshman athlete Valerie-Ange Batta (Durham, N.C.) totaled six touchdowns – four scores through the air and a pair of scores on the ground – to lead the Bulldogs to the win.

Batta also totaled 232 yards of offense as well – 158 yards passing and 74 yards rushing – as the Bulldogs shook off a slow start on their way to the easy win.

Barton scored 40 points after intermission while freshman athlete Saron Merid (Charlotte, N.C.) finished with 109 yards receiving and two scores in the win.  Barton held a 333-171 edge in total yards in the victory as well.

Game Two – Barton 66, Chowan 0
Batta passed for six more scores – including four to Merid – and finished with 275 yards through the air in the triumph. 

Merid has six catches for 194 yards as well as the Bulldogs topped 60-plus points for the third time in five games this year.

The Bulldogs defense limited the Hawks to just 130 yards in pitching their second straight shutout.

Barton hits the road for the first time this year when the Bulldogs travel to Wingate, N.C., on Saturday to take on Wingate (1:00 p.m.) and Mars Hill (2:30 p.m.).
