WILSON, N.C. – The Barton flag football team (2-1, 0-1) couldn't hold an eight-point lead and fell to Ferrum (6-2, 2-0), 37-33, Saturday afternoon at Electric Supply Company Field and Truist Stadium.
Ferrum's Payson Shreeve (Gilbert, Ariz.) passed for 439 yards and five touchdowns and her 15-yard pass to Samantha Pitzer (Loomis, Calif.) with 60 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter proved to be the difference.
The Panthers' Macy Taylor (Springfield, Ore.) was the visitors' top receiver with 14 receptions for 163 yards and a touchdown while Pitzer added two scores in the triumph.
Barton was paced by freshman quarterback
Sawyer Rigdon (Wilmington, N.C.) with 317 yards passing and four touchdowns despite the loss.

Valerie-Ange Batta (Durham, N.C.) led the Bulldogs with nine catches for 117 yards and a touchdown while freshman athlete
Alexa Wheaton (Raleigh, N.C.) returned an interception 22 yards for a score in the losing effort.
Barton came into the contest averaging 82.5 points per game. The Bulldogs host Chowan on Wednesday night in a league contest at 7:00 p.m., while Ferrum plays Hollins in Roanoke, Va., on Wednesday starting at 4:00 p.m.
